Dr. Roy graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1997, obtaining her Doctor of Optometry degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours. She also completed an Ocular Therapeutics Placement at the Omni Eye Centre in Denver, Colorado. She serves as a bilingual OSCE Examiner and a member of the Question Validation (Standard Setting) team for the Canadian Examining Board of Canada, which establishes and assesses national entry-to-practice competence in Optometry for new graduates. She is a member in good standing of Optometric Associations at the national, provincial, and local levels.

As a proud member of the Nepean Optometric Team for her entire career, Dr. Roy has enjoyed working in the dynamic and ever-changing community of Bells Corners. Her fluency in English and French is a great asset to the clinic. She is interested in all areas of Primary Care Optometry, particularly in pediatrics, myopia control, ocular disease management, and pre-and post-operative laser surgery care. She is also very excited to offer her patients the opportunity for advanced care of Ocular Surface Disease at Nepean Optometric’s Dry Eye Clinic.

Outside of work, Dr. Roy keeps up with her busy family and enjoys an active lifestyle as a curler and competitive dragon boat paddler.

Dr. Litwiller received her Doctor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Waterloo in 1997, graduating with Honours. She completed an Ocular Therapeutics internship in 1996 at the Omni Eye Care Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon graduation, Dr. Litwiller received the Canadian Contact Lens Society Prize and the Dr. Michael Gutwein Memorial Award for Leadership. In 2020 Dr. Litwiller received the Ottawa People’s Choice Award for Favourite Optometrist.

Dr. Litwiller practices full-scope optometric care and is very focused on using technology to detect eye disease as early as possible and improve patient outcomes. Dr. Litwiller particularly enjoys the co-management of ocular health conditions, contact lens care, myopia management, and pre and post-refractive surgery care.

Dr. Litwiller is involved with the Canadian Examiners in Optometry in assessing candidates in their practical licensing exams. Dr. Litwiller enjoys being active outdoors in her spare time, including cycling, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Combining her love for travel and desire to help people, Dr. Litwiller has volunteered on several eye missions in developing countries, including Africa and Nepal.

Dr. David Charbonneau received his Optometry Doctorate from the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Waterloo in 2018, graduating on the Dean’s Honours List. He completed an ocular disease and therapeutics internship in 2017 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He also participated in a volunteer trip to Moldova with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) in 2016, providing free eye examinations and glasses to the local Moldovan community. Before optometry, Dr. Charbonneau graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours in 2014 from Carleton University with a major in the field of Neuroscience.

Having been a member of the Nepean Optometric team throughout his optometry schooling, working both in pretesting and in the dispensary, Dr. Charbonneau was very excited to start his career as an associate optometrist with Nepean Optometric. He is now equally excited for the next step, having become a partner in fall 2022.

Dr. Charbonneau enjoys all aspects of primary optometric care with a special interest in scleral contact lenses and myopia control. In his spare time, he enjoys baking, films/TV, video games, and spending time with friends and family, including his dog, Juno.

Dr. Aliya Shafi studied biochemistry and human biology at the University of Toronto and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry Degree at the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Shafi completed her ocular disease externship at EyeLabs in the GTA. There, she focused on treating dry eye disease, blepharitis, ocular rosacea, and styes. She also trained at the PRISM Eye Institute, where she gained exposure to complex cataracts and glaucoma in a surgical setting. She enjoys practising full-scope optometry with a special interest in dry eyes and in-office therapies like IPL and radio frequency.

While in school, Dr. Shafi received scholarships from the National Vision Institute in 2021 and Transitions in 2020. She was the president of the Private Practice Club and played varsity fastpitch for both the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. She is currently a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists.

In her spare time, Dr. Shafi enjoys the outdoors, exploring Ottawa’s food scene, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Breanne Beauchamp received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 2023, graduating on the Dean’s Honours List. She completed an ocular disease rotation in Dauphin, Manitoba, where she gained experience practicing optometry in a rural setting. Prior to optometry school, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Life Science from Queen’s University, and a Master of Science in Clinical Vision Science from Dalhousie University, where she received the LASIK MD award. Her training at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre led to her certification as an orthoptist in 2017, an eye care professional specializing in binocular vision and ocular motility disorders. She then worked as an orthoptist at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Boston Children’s Hospital, gaining significant experience working with pediatric and special needs patients before attending optometry school.

While in optometry school, Dr. Beauchamp worked as a summer student at Nepean Optometric, and is excited to join the team again, this time as an associate. Dr. Beauchamp enjoys all aspects of full-scope optometry, with a special interest in pediatrics, myopia control and glaucoma.

In her spare time, Dr. Beauchamp enjoys swimming, skiing, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Pat Hamilton graduated from the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 1988, having been awarded the Ciba Vision Award for Clinical Excellence. This followed a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg in 1984. Dr. Hamilton received his certification in the use of therapeutic drugs in 1994 from Northeastern State University, College of Optometry, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He has been practising optometry in Nepean since 1988. Dr. Hamilton enjoys all aspects of primary optometric care particularly contact lens therapy, digital ocular photography and the pre- and post-operative care of patients interested in refractive surgery.

Dr. Hamilton has served his profession locally, provincially and nationally in various roles. He is past member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists’ Occupational Vision Committee, the CNIB Advisory Board, past-president of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists and is a former chairperson of the Staff Education Program for the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Dr. Hamilton is currently a member in good standing of the Ottawa, Ontario and Canadian Associations of Optometry. His leisure time revolves around his wife and 3 boys and spending time with them on the water at the family cottage.

Dr. Joyce Barbour is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978. Before and after graduation she was involved in vision research at the National Research Council. She has been practising in Bells Corner since 1980 and has been involved with the Nepean Optometric since its inception. Dr. Barbour practises full scope optometric care and especially enjoys contact lens care, pre- and post-op laser refractive surgery care and the co-management of ocular health conditions. She became certified in the use of therapeutic drugs in 2009.

Dr. Barbour has served her profession locally, provincially and nationally in various roles. She worked with the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the profession’s regulatory body, serving on both the Optometry Review Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee. She continues to be an assessor for the Quality Assurance Program. Dr. Barbour’s more recent involvement has been with the Canadian Examiners in Optometry where she is an assessor of the clinical skills of optometrists applying to be licensed to practise in Canada and also sits on several CEO committees that are involved in the process of establishing and maintaining the standards for the examinations for these same optometrists.
